Good Samaritan Hospital was founded in section 1885, although the current hospital was built in 1976. The hospital was historically affiliated with the Episcopal Church, but currently pastoral care services are available for all religions and denominations.

Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy died at this hospital early in the morning of June 6, 1968.
