The 2014â"15 Washington Capitals season was the 41st season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 11, 1974.
Off-season
Less than two weeks after the end of the Capitals' 2013â"14 season, where the team missed the playoffs for the first time since 2007, the Washington Capitals announced that Head Coach Adam Oates was fired and General Manager George McPhee would not have his contract with the team renewed. On May 26, 2014, the Capitals promoted Brian MacLellan to be senior vice president and general manager and named Barry Trotz their new head coach.
